Modern art often explores socio-political themes but at the same time it also stimulates one’s aesthetic sensibilities. That’s a significant appeal to me.

"Porto is also famous as the city where J.K. Rowling lived when she was still unknown. LIVRARIA LELLO is acclaimed as one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world and there were also rumours that it was the place that inspired her for the creation of Harry Potter. Avoiding the crowded tourist spot, I headed to an unassuming used bookstore in the same neighbourhood.

ポルトは、J.K.Rowlingが無名時代に住んでいた街としても有名。LIVRARIA LELLO は世界で最も美しい本屋と謳われ、ハリーポッター創作に向け、彼女にインスピレーションを与えた場所なのでは？という噂もあったよう。

多くの人で賑わう観光地と化したその店を避け、同じ界隈にひっそりと佇む古書店へ。

Matosinhos Beach, Porto

Just a stone's throw from the city centre, Matosinhos is Porto's main beach, yet it maintains a spotless, garbage-free landscape. You can feel the love and care of the people for this city.

I had seafood almost every day while staying in Portugal, but this deliciously aromatic grilled fish was definitely my favourite –crispy outside, fluffy inside with a perfectly natural savoury flavour.

中心街からほど近い海岸 Matosinhos Beach 。ポルトのメインビーチでありながら、ゴミはゼロ。この街を愛し、大切にしている人々の心が伝わってきます。

毎日シーフード三昧の滞在中、こちらの香ばしい平目が最高でした。

Jardim do Morro, on the south bank of the Douro River

On the south bank hill of the Douro River called Jardim do Morro, overlooking the sunset, we enjoyed a white Port wine cocktail with a sprig of rosemary and a wedge of orange. It was truly special.

ドウロ川の夕陽を臨む丘での白ポートワインは、ローズマリー、オレンジが添えられたカクテル。格別でした。

Water of ocher by Storm Agnes, Calder Mill Waterfall, Lochwinnoch

In Scotland we often come across rivers with a reddish-brown colour, possibly due to the high iron content in the rocky terrain, but this autumn, frequent heavy rain has turned the nearby waterfall into an ochre colour.

スコットランドは岩に鉄分が多いせいか赤褐色の川を良くみかけますが、この秋は大雨が多く、近所の滝は黄土色と化しています。
