Hi everyone, I hope you are all well? Today’s article is a studio report. I’m introducing some photos of the Setsu-gekka collection I’ve made for the Christmas season. I hope you like it!!
皆様こんにちは。お元気ですか？ 今日は久しぶりのスタジオレポート。クリスマスシーズンに向け、新しい雪月花コレクションを写真でご紹介致します。
Setsu-gekka is the name given to one group of traditional patterns in Japan. The word, Setsu-gekka originally comes from China and was first used in poem written in the 8th century and symbolises snow, moon and flowers. It’s often seen in Japanese art such as poetry, paintings and prints to express the heart cherishing those three elements of nature. Setsu-gekka has been long cherished as a seasonal motif, especially during the Edo Period (1603-1867). The pendants in the photos are reversible and feature the three elements. 雪月花という言葉は、中国で8-9世紀に活躍した白 居易の詩が起源だそう。平安時代初期、日本では漢詩文が公的な文学とされ、貴族の間では白 居易などの漢籍（漢文の書籍）は必須の教養であったとか。ところがその後、中国では内乱が続き政治的関係が不安定となって、9世紀には遣唐使が廃止。そのような流れから国風文化の時代が訪れ、かな文字の発達により枕草子、源氏物語などの文学を中心に日本独自のスタイルが発展していきます。こういった時代背景の中、文化芸術の特徴の一つとして、自然の風物を愛でる心を表現する際、雪、月、花を詩歌や絵画、版画等の中で三つの題材を一つの作品として取合せてきました。写真は、リバーシブルの七宝ペンダント。この中に 潜む”雪月花” を探して頂けたら嬉しいです。ペンダントのお求めは、EMOSIWN ETSY SHOP 又は、直接コンタクトにてお問合せをお願い致します。
The first appearance of the concept of Setsu-gekka in Japan was seen in the (waka) poetry of Otomo Yakamochi. This is found in the oldest existing collection of Japanese poetry, the Man'yōshū, literally meaning the collection of ten thousand leaves. The collection consists of 4,500 waka poems; waka is a form of Japanese poetry style beginning in the 8th century and from which haiku developed.

A shining moon night
How wonderful
If I had someone
I would like to give
A snapped plum blossom branch
With a beautiful moon at night, I wonder who you would think about?
The 24 Seasons is ‘Cold Dew’ and the 72 Micro Seasons is ‘Crickets Chirp Around the Door’.

日本で最初に雪月花が現れたのは、奈良時代末期、万葉集に収められている大伴家持が綴ったものだそうです。
雪の上に 照れる月夜に 梅の花 折りて贈らむ 愛しき子もがも
降積った雪。月に照らされた夜。 梅の枝を摘んで差出したくなる様な愛おしい人がいればどれ程素敵でしょう。
