TATEWAKU Scholar Necklace
TATEWAKU Scholar Necklace
This is a cloisonné traditional Shippo enamel necklace with an ancient Japanese design, Tatewaku 立涌. The pattern initially was exclusively used for kimono of scholars and researchers working for the court in the Heian period ( 794-1185 ).
EDO-KOMON SERIES: 'TATEWAKU SCHOLAR'
Edo-komon are traditional Japanese designs from the Edo period (1603-1867). Edo-komon motifs consisting of auspicious symbols and patterns are the inspiration for many of my designs.
Tatewaku symbolises steam rising from the ground in the spring. I combined the design with calligraphy brushes looking like a flower and a book.
